Talk by Dr. John Izbicki from the USGS

2021-06-05

As a wrap-up from the Environmental Forensics course, Dr. Jhon Izbicki talked to us about the challenges of identifying the background Cr concentrations in the Mojave desert.

If something is true about the Corona pandemic is that it has opened our eyes to the possibilities for online exchange. As a highlight to this year's mock court hearing for the Environmental Forensics course, we had a guest talk from Dr. John Izbicki, who has worked with the USGS in the Hinkley area, regarding the activity of Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) in the 1950s and 1960s.

During his talk, Dr. Izbicki highlighted the challenges of establishing the background Cr concentrations in the area as well as the huge task the USGS is confronted with when analyzing the data.

Thank you Dr. Izbicki for taking the time to discuss this very interesting topic and give us great insight from the site, and thank you to the students for attending after a long day of court-hearing!
